The Avo Limited Edition 2010

Forward taken from the Avo site:

“Avo Uvezian’s new birthday creation is a cigar that no aficionado would want to miss. That’s because the AVO Limited Edition 2010 stands out not just for its sophisticated and extremely elegant exterior, which it owes to the dark, sun-ripened wrapper leaf. It also indulges lovers of AVO brand cigars with subtle aromas of coffee and dark chocolate that develop a fruity note in the aftertaste and bring to mind the exquisite nuances of a strong red wine. Here the filler consisting exclusively of Ligero tobaccos and the resulting full-bodied flavour of the Super Robusto format is balanced by its combination with the Sumatra Mexico binder leaf and the select, dark Ecuador special sun grown wrapper leaf. Limited to 10,000 worldwide, this special edition is packaged in modern, matt black lacquered wooden boxes of 10″

Pre-note:

First and foremost, this is an impressive package no matter how you look at it. The box features a nice slick black lacquer with a black/silver color scheme (see photos). The cigar itself is beautiful. One of the most impressive looking wrappers I’ve seen on an Avo in a while. It reminded me a little bit of the La Flor Dominicana’s wrappers. There’s only going to be 10,000 of these produced in 10 count boxes so if you’re an Avo fan you may want to scoop up a box or two soon.

Construction/Burn/Draw:

Firm. Not too soft, not too hard. I’ve smoked through 4-5 of these now and the construction has been great; a few had water spots and some blemishes but nothing major. [SPOILER] The cigar is young, hands down. out of the handful I’ve smoked they have ALL had burn issues. If you have a sharp enough palette you can pick up on a hint of the ammonia taste in the background as well. With that being said, mark my words – these will turn out to be one of the best cigars this year. Here’s why:

Smoke:

These are definitely the strongest Avo to date IMO. The beginning has an earthy feel to it. Musty. There’s a little bit of cocoa there with a peppery finish. throughout the cigar there’s a ton of pepper which subsides into a medley of cocoa/wood/leather and a hint of coffee. Overall the smoke is very tasty. Like I said earlier, there’s a faint hint of ammonia from the ligero being young. If you subtract that, the Avo LE 2010 has a great flavor profile.

Bottom Line:

Do yourself a favor and let these beauties sit in the box for a few months. I said the same thing about the Companero in 09′ and now they’re smoking GREAT.
